Feeding and background

Boswellia serrata, sometimes called Indian frankincense, is a resin from the boswellia tree with a long traditional history in herbal feeding. It is chosen by owners who want botanical support for normal joint comfort and freedom of movement.

Traditional use

Boswellia has been used in traditional herbal practice for many years and has become a familiar botanical in equine mobility routines. It is fed as nutritional support for horses in work and older horses on a maintenance routine, alongside good farriery, sensible workloads and turnout.

Feeding notes

Boswellia has a distinctive resinous aroma, so introduce it slowly over seven to ten days mixed into damp feed. Consistency matters more than quantity: keep the routine steady for four to six weeks before reviewing how your horse is getting on.

Competition and veterinary care

Some herbal botanicals attract particular attention under competition rules. If you compete, check current rules with your vet, governing body or competition authority before feeding. Speak to your vet before introducing new supplements, especially if your horse is pregnant, competing, taking medication or has a diagnosed condition. If you compete, check current rules with your governing body.

Frequently asked questions

Herbs and botanical supplements are intended to support normal health, comfort and wellbeing as part of good horse management. They are not medicines and should not be used to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. Always speak to your vet before introducing new supplements.
