Feeding and background

Chamomile is one of the gentlest and most widely fed calming herbs in the UK. Milled into a powder, it mixes easily into feed and is traditionally used to support settled behaviour and normal digestive comfort.

Traditional use

Chamomile has a long history as a gentle botanical for horses that are sharp, sensitive or unsettled by changes in routine. Owners often feed it around travel, shows, box rest or seasonal changes, alongside consistent handling and good management.

Feeding notes

The powder mixes readily into damp feed and is usually well accepted. Introduce it over several days and feed consistently — herbal support of this kind works best as part of a settled daily routine rather than as a one-off.

Competition and veterinary care

If you compete, check current rules for any herbal product with your vet, governing body or competition authority. Sudden changes in behaviour should be investigated for pain, dental issues or discomfort. Speak to your vet before introducing new supplements, especially if your horse is pregnant, competing, taking medication or has a diagnosed condition. If you compete, check current rules with your governing body.

Frequently asked questions

Herbs and botanical supplements are intended to support normal health, comfort and wellbeing as part of good horse management. They are not medicines and should not be used to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. Always speak to your vet before introducing new supplements.
