Limestone Flour
Pony <450kg 30g Horse >450kg 50g
Limestone flour is a simple, traditional feed material supplying calcium carbonate. It is widely used to help balance the calcium to phosphorus ratio of the diet, particularly for horses fed cereals or high-bran feeds.
Cereal-based feeds are naturally higher in phosphorus than calcium. Limestone flour is used to help bring the overall calcium to phosphorus ratio of the diet back into a sensible range, supporting normal bone and skeletal health as part of a balanced diet.
It is a fine white powder that mixes easily into damp feed. Because it is a straight mineral source, work out what your balancer, hard feed and forage already provide before adding more, and ask a nutritionist or your vet if you are unsure.
Mineral balance matters. Feeding calcium without considering the rest of the diet can unbalance it. Speak to your vet before introducing new supplements, especially if your horse is pregnant, competing, taking medication or has a diagnosed condition. If you compete, check current rules with your governing body.
Herbs and botanical supplements are intended to support normal health, comfort and wellbeing as part of good horse management. They are not medicines and should not be used to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. Always speak to your vet before introducing new supplements.
